Projects.

Below are some things i've worked on in my time as a student.

T2G Gamejam 2014

In April of 2014, I attended the Train2Game gamejam. This time, I was tasked with being the team leader. I relished in the oppurtunity to put my scheduling and leadership skills to the test.

Most of my fellow team mates were new to game development, and as such, I made sure that everyone was up to speed on the knowledge needed for the event. This also allowed me to put their fears to rest and build there confidence.

Once at the event, we created a game which we named Glow in the Dark. Originally inspired by BoulderDash the game sees Glow the Glow worm have to navigate through a series of mazes and collect items. This is made more interesting due to the fact that the character himself is the only source of light in the game, and players must navigate the levels in the dark.

We came away from the jam with 3 completed levels and plan to continue to develop the game with a view to releasing it in the future.

GameJam 2012 - MONUMENTAL!

I took part in this GameJam which was organised by Train2Game and Microsoft. We broke the Guiness World Record for most participants in a single location.

The theme was Pride of London, due to all the events and celebrations that London has hosted in 2012.

The story we came up with was simply that aliens have noticed Londons smugness from space, and so have come to destroy Londons Monuments as an attempt to reduce London Pride.

I worked with a great bunch of guys on this project, but our team lacked an artist. We used a photo of Tower Bridge as the backdrop for our level, and then added platforms on to various points of the picture.

The player character can move around on these. The player must kill the aliens and collect coins for his cab fare home afterwards.

Within the timeframe of the Jam, as well as all the design aspects of the game, I worked on some newspaper stills to be used in level transition. I also placed some coins within the level by changing their positions within the game code itself.

At the end of the 48 hours we had to pitch our game to the judges. As a novel idea given the theme of the game I wrote a 1 minute opening speech in Cokney Rhyming Slang. To read this and a translation please click on the button below.
